Our Nature Play Birthday Parties and Celebrations are designed to connect children and families with hands-on, child-led activities that engage both bodies and brains. Our parties are fun, nature-forward, and we gotta say, quite adorable!

Best of all, with several themes to suit your child's age and interest, we bring the fun to you and personalize each program for the ages and interests of your special kiddo and your party guests.

You provide the food and location, and we provide the

activities and decor!

Hello!

I’m Kim, founder of Featherfin Family Services and lead host of all Featherfin birthday parties!

With certifications in Play-Based Learning and Connection Centered Discipline, and with a background as a Children's Librarian, Tinkergarten Teacher, and Virginia Master Naturalist, I bring compassionate care and a passion for nature exploration and learning to each and every program I host!

The Basics

We offer nature play parties for children turning

ages 2 through 8.

Our parties are available on select Saturdays in the warm weather months of April - mid-October.

Our home base is the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and we primarily accept bookings for families located in our core service area of Augusta, Rockingham, and Rockbridge County.

Our Party Themes

If your child likes things a bit fancy and frolicky, this forest-themed tea party is for them!

Our decor for this party brings a woodland cottage vibe that includes centerpieces of moss and vines and gorgeous wind-catching dried flower hanging art. Add in some kid-friendly herbal tea and lemonade served in mini tea sets, and this party is cute cute cute! Party host Kim even comes dressed from head to toe as her alter ego, Windy the Forest Fairy!

But it's not just about the sweet decor and tea time, we bring the entertainment too, highlighted by an adorable fairy village creation activity perfect for any child who enjoys "small world" design or doll play.

Plus! To make menu planning a bit easier, we even provide families with a kid-friendly tea party recipe list

PARTY FAVOR ADD ON! For an additional $5 per child, send each child away with a mini fairy house "small world" party favor to keep the creative play going at home.

Held in warm weather months (mid-April - early October), this delightfully adorable party includes making mud from scratch and using it to create and play in a wide variety of ways. Trust us, the photos of muddy, messy kiddos grinning from ear to ear are bound to keep this party in your memory bank for a very long time!

Toddlers and pre-schoolers love the sensory delights of mixing and squishing the ooey-gooey mud, while older kiddos can’t help but get creative with cooking up mud cakes and other pretend treats! As for the farm-animal loving kiddos in attendance, they will be thrilled at the opportunity to design their very own muddy pig sty!

*Note - Due to the fun but messy nature of this program, it can only be held outdoors, so we strongly recommend that families book a Rain Date backup slot to assure your mud magic bash goes off without a hitch!

PARTY FAVOR ADD ON: For an additional $5 per child, send your party guests home with a plastic piggy, a mud "recipe" card, and a bag full of top soil to continue their muddy play at home!

If you have an active kiddo at home who loves both stories and animals, our Animal Superhero Music and Movement Storytime is bound to be a hit!

A mix of stories, song, and imaginative play, guests will don superhero capes and alternatively move and groove to animal themed songs and adorable, interactive picture books. Once storytime is complete, the fun will continue, as children will be invited to keep up the movement and imaginative play with child-led, free play animal movement activity stations! Who can balance on logs like squirrels, sniff out food like a bear, slide through tunnels like a worm, or fly around their outdoor space with their excellent "Eagle Eyes" to spot hiding prey?

PLUS! If it's over 80 degrees, we bring a large cooler filled with ice and popsicles to make sure everyone stays cool and hydrated during this active, movement-based shindig.

PARTY FAVOR ADD ON! Inspired by our animal movement theme, for an extra $5 per child you can send your party guests home with an animal mask and a set of animal movement challenge cards they can try out the next time they go outside to play!

Have a budding young artist at home? Watch their creativity come alive with our Open Air Artists art and craft extravaganza!

From evergreen needle paint brushes and forest putty play dough to recycled jewelry laid out on pine bark palettes, earth friendly art materials and the beauty of the natural world is at the center of this child-led experience. Depending on the party location, we often can even responsibly forage natural materials to be added to our art supply buffet!

After designing their own birthday party banner, children will be free to take the reins on their creations in this "choose your own adventure" smorgasbord of art and expression. No two Open Air Artists are the same, and the variety of art masterpieces will reflect that diversity! As the creation time winds down, all party guests will be invited to visit our “art gallery“ and celebrate their children’s inspired efforts.
